The AML tech stack for a five-person firm

A worked example: which tools to combine, which to skip, and what it costs all-in for a typical small practice.

By James Carter

Most articles about AML tech assume a mid-market buyer. For a 5-person firm, the question is different: what's the minimum tooling that produces a defensible program without consuming a partner's week every month?

The recommended stack

  • Full-suite platform (e.g. easyAML or AML360) — A$0–A$199/month for the program, CDD and screening.
  • Practice-management integration — usually included in the platform tier above.
  • Annual training module — usually bundled.
  • Independent review subscription — A$2,500/year amortised.

What to skip at this size

  • Specialist screening on top of a full-suite — overkill below 50 onboardings/month.
  • Custom integration projects — wait until volume justifies the cost.
  • Multiple SMR templates by jurisdiction — one template, parameterised, is enough.

All-in cost: typically A$2,000–A$5,000/year. Time commitment: 4–6 hours per week from the AMLCO, mostly batched.
